Richard Armfield
Job Title: Director, Project Development & Construction Management

Richard Armfield is a highly experienced chartered civil engineer with over 25 years experience in design, project engineering and construction management for major engineering projects. He joined Bullen Consultants after graduating from Southampton University in 1982, and became a Divisional Director in 1998.  In 2002 he co-founded Rural Arisings specialising in the design and construction of environmental projects and in particular the restoration of closed landfills.  He is an experienced Project Manager with proven ability to progress multi-disciplinary engineering projects through all stages, from initial planning and feasibility studies to detailed design, construction and commissioning. His design and construction management experience includes river and maritime engineering works, contaminated land resolution, environmental enhancement, building structures, bridges, retaining structures, earthworks, foundations, railways and highways.

Sarah Chartres

Job Title: Director Human Resources, Administration and Finance

Sarah Chartres is a practised administrator with over 35 years experience in retail, catering and construction.  She completed a Higher National Diploma in Business Studies and French at the Polytechnic of the South Bank and joined Marks & Spencer’s commercial management team which culminated in moving to head office to become Distribution Manager Foods.  Following a short career break she held positions as PA, general manager, HR Manager and Administrative Manager within both the catering and construction industries.  Sarah has been a Director of Rural Arisings since its inception in 2002.

Neil Gibbens

Neil Gibbens - Rural Arisings
Job Title: Principal Engineer

Neil Gibbens is a chartered civil engineer with over 10 years experience in civil and structural engineering projects.  He graduated from South Bank University in 1996 with a First Class Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, after which he spent two years in Singapore as a Resident Engineer, before returning to the UK in 1998.  From 1998 Neil worked for Bullen Consultants, and latterly Faber Maunsell, where he gained extensive experience in the design, management and construction of a diverse range of engineering projects including buildings, railways, rivers, flood alleviation and drainage schemes.  Since joining Rural Arisings in 2006, Neil has successfully progressed numerous projects through design, planning consent and construction stages, including the restoration of closed landfills and the creation of farm water management systems.  Neil is responsible for the submission of planning applications and has undertaken extensive consultations with the Environment Agency, Local and County Councils, Statutory Undertakers and local residents during the course of these projects.

Tony Grogan

Tony Grogan - Rural Arisings
Job Title: Administration and Health and Safety Manager

Tony retired from Bullen Consultants in September 2005 having joined as a Senior Technician in 1966. He was appointed Health and Safety Manager for the firm in 1989 and Regional Environmental Manager for Croydon in 2004. As Health and Safety Manager, he reported to and advised the Director for Health and Safety on all health and safety management issues He was also responsible for managing and co-ordinating the activities of Regional Health and Safety Officers and for providing general advice on Health and Safety matters to directors and staff throughout the firm. Tony Grogan joined Rural Arisings in October 2005 as CDM Co-ordinator and is now also the Administration Manager.

Dale Russell

Dale Russell - Rural Arisings
Job Title: Graduate Engineer

Dale Russell graduated from Anglia Ruskin University in 2012 with an MEng Distinction in Civil Engineering.  After graduation, Dale started working as a Self Employed CAD technician where he furthered his experience using AutoCAD in a professional capacity. The works Dale carried out involved building services, general amendments and record drawings. Since moving to Rural Arisings Dale has been involved in the early stages of the planning application for land restoration to a number of recreational grounds where he was required to produce topographic surveys and detailed drawings which included issues of water management solutions and ecological impact.

Charles Robinson

Charles Robinson - Rural Arisings
Job Title: Graduate Engineer

Charles Robinson graduated from Nottingham University in 2013 with an MEng Hons in Civil Engineering. As part of his studies he liaised with WSP regarding their project of The Shard gaining knowledge in Sustainable Engineering and Development, as well as glass and steel structures. As construction practice with Sir Robert McAlpine and Walsh Group Charles was involved in the construction of a scaled submersible oil rig giving him an oversight of a whole project. He joined Rural Arisings in May 2014 and supervises the restoration works on the Little Belhus site to create a Country Park on a former landfill. His responsibilities include detailed designs, surveying, setting out, testing and monitoring of soil, water and gas.

Alex Cooke

Job Title: Environmental Scientist

Alex Cooke graduated from the University of Brighton in 2012 with an MSc (Hons) in Environmental Assessment and Management. Prior to this, he completed a BSc (Hons) in Ecology and Conservation from Bournemouth University. His education largely focussing on Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Law, he also volunteered with the RSPB and other conservation groups, gaining experience in hands-on habitat management and field ecology. Before joining Rural Arisings he worked in flood risk, contaminated land and water quality compliance, developing a range of experience most notably in project development, the planning system and regulatory compliance.
Alex joined Rural Arisings in February 2015 and is based at our Cranleigh Brickworks remediation project. His main responsibility is in project development but he has also contributed to obtaining and implementing the site's European Protected Species Mitigation Licence.

Dhruti Bell

Dhruti Bell - Rural Arisings
Job Title: Park Warden and Countryside Manager

Dhruti Bell graduated from University of East Anglia in 2008 with a Bsc Hons in Ecology, and in 2009 with an Msc in Applied Ecology and Conservation. After graduation she worked as an Environmental Scientist for a marine consultancy. Dhruti then decided to train in methods of managing land for wildlife and nature conservation so secured a placement with the RSPB, where she continued to work with the organisation as an Assistant Warden on woodland, wetland and heathland habitats. She joined Rural Arisings in 2014. Her main role here is to undertake habitat creation and management at Little Belhus, whilst engaging with the local community to fulfil the objectives of the project.
